Joe Loughrey

Retired President and Vice Chairman

Joe Loughrey retired from a 35-year career with Cummins, Inc. in 2009.  During that time, Loughrey held the positions of Vice Chairman (2008-2009) and President and Chief Operating Officer (2005-2008).  He was a member of the corporation’s Board of Directors and a board member for the Cummins Foundation.

During Loughrey’s career, Cummins, Inc. grew into a Fortune 200 company, serving customers in more than 160 countries with 5,000 distributor and dealer locations.  The corporation generated more than $14.3 billion in sales in 2008.

He Chairs the Boards of Hillenbrand Inc., and the Lumina Foundation for Education and also serves on the Vanguard and Oxfam America Board of Directors.  Loughrey is a member, and past chair, of the Advisory Council of the College of Arts & Letters and Chairs the Advisory Board to the Kellogg Institute for International Studies, both at the University of Notre Dame.

His honors include the AIESEC Lifetime Achievement Award, the Achievement Award for Business from the Ireland Chamber of Commerce in the U.S., the William R. Laws Human Rights Award and the March of Dimes’ Dick Johnson Leadership Award.  He was named Indiana Global Business Person of 2007 and received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2008.
